If you do not plan a budget, you may find yourself spending
too much money online. You may also find yourself losing too much money online. In addition, you might spend money needlessly on items that you don't really need and that you won't really utilize.
Have you ever gone into a store to purchase one item and find yourself purchasing several items...items that were impulse items...items that you really did not need? I think that happens to all of us. Men, you are guilty of it too!
The point being, you need to learn focus and if you don't set yourself a budget, you'll become lost and out of focus. You're likely to over spend and then
kick yourself later. What happens to your mindset when you kick yourself?
You see everything is related. Your ambitions, your failures, your successes, your mindset, your credibility, your focus, and just as importantly, your budget.
Open up wordpad or word doc on your computer. At the top type in MONTHLY BILLS. List your household monthly bills...all of them! It might look something like this :
Apartment - $700
Electric - $150
Groceries - $400
Gasoline - $200
Trash PickUp - $25
Kids School Lunch - $50
-----------------------------
Add it up for a total $
Print it out on the paper that has holes and place it in one of your ring binders.
Open another word doc, and type at the top MONTHLY GUESSTIMATES.
It may take you awhile but do your best to guesstimate your additional monthly expenditures. It might look something like this :
Pizza man about twice a month - $30
Clothes for me and family about - $100
Me and spouse out to eat about once a month - $50
Kids to skating rink once a month about - $15
----------------------------------------
Add it up for a total $
Do the same as you did above...print it out and place in the same ring binder.
Now this is the FUN part. Open up a word doc and type at the top THINGS I WANT WITHIN REASON. See that word 'reason'? Don't go overboard here. Be reasonable. Your list might look something like this :
I'm in an apartment so I want a $150,000 house
I have one child so I want to have at least a $50,000 saved for his college
My car is falling apart, I want a new car and that would be oh about $25,000
New furniture for the new house I want so $20,000 would do
I'd love to have a new wardrobe...oh about $5,000 would be great
I want a fishing boat $10,000
-----------------------------------------
Add it up for a total $
Here again, print it out and place in that same ring binder.
Can you see that the things that you WANT that are in REASON can actually be a pretty good sum of money? Can you see that your monthly household bills and your monthly guesstimated expenditures can be a pretty good sum of money?
Now I present to you the following question ...
CAN YOU REALLY AFFORD NOT to CREATE a BUDGET?
Joining business opportunities and programs along with buying marketing tools etc., is fine....IF you can afford them and IF you REALLY utilize them.
Years ago what I found was happening to me was that I was spending a lot of money needlessly. I had not set myself any sort of a budget for online work at home expenditures. After I set a budget, a very exciting thing started taking place. I realized I was spending less money on things I did not really need, less
money on business opportunities that were not going to pan out for me anyway...and....I became MORE focused on the things that I was REALLY interested in. I found myself actually achieving referrals, actually purchasing quality products I used, carefully scrutinizing programs before making a decision
about joining them.
Look in your ring binder. No, I mean REALLY LOOK. Look at the things you must pay every month offline. Look at the amount of money you might be blowing each month offline. Now, look again at the things you want that are within reason.
It takes money to make money. It does. If you are reading this now, I am sure you are more than interested in making several hundred to several thousand dollars per month working at home online. I don't think you would be reading this if you only wanted a dime here and a dime there. You'll have to have some sort of budget and you'll need to stick to your budget. As you move forward in the online business world, your budget may change and that is fine. However, when
starting out and starting out on the right foot, you must set a limited budget and stick to it.
If you find that you have absolutely no money for working online, open up your ring binder, look at your monthly guesstimates and see if there are corners you can cut. Are you spending money offline needlessly? Maybe you can cut back on one of those pizza orders each month...right there is $10 or $20 you can place to your online monthly budget. Are you spending $20 a month at walmart on impulse items? If so, stop...there is $20 you can add to your monthly budget
When I started my plan of action and set up my budget, I knew I would have to cut corners. I had been spending way too much money and my pocket book was literally running on empty. Not only did I have to stop blowing money left and right online, I needed to stop doing it offline too! No more expensive designer jeans for me! Levis would do just fine. No more impulse buys at WalMart for me...yep that looks cute but it will just have to look cute on the WalMart shelf because I am not going to buy it.
By setting up a budget, I had more money in my pocket, more focus on what I was doing online, less junk to contend with, and I started making money!
Keep in mind, never cut back on things you and your family need to be healthy and happy. I think that goes without saying but I have said it anyway, just to make sure that everyone reading this understands exactly what I mean.
Open up a word doc. Type at the top 'MONTHLY ONLINE BUSINESS BUDGET'. And type in your dollar amount that you will spend online. Print it out, place it in the same ring binder.
Leave the binder on your desk ALWAYS. When you see something online that sounds hot, cool, the next big thing...open up your ring binder...LOOK at each of the pages you printed out, look at your monthly budget...then look back at the computer at that hot, cool, next big thing, and research it, and ask yourself....'do I really need this and will I really utilize this and is this going to place me over my budget?'
This first step of setting up your budget can actually take a little while to create. I can guarantee you, you will save money, you will be more in focus, and
you'll be on your way to a successful financial future.
After completing this step, go to step two.
